INDEPENDENT LIVING BAS-SAINT-LAURENT[1]
The Independent Living Bas-Saint-Laurent center focuses on empowering individuals living with disabilities. To become a member at this center, the following criteria must be met:
- Believe in the mission and values of the organization
- Be a resident of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region
- Be at least 18 years of age or older
You can register by filling out the membership form and sending it either by mail or by completing the electronic form online.
The main activities of the center are:
–Information and Networking: this program aims to facilitate access to information, whether the information is related to government assistance programs or information regarding possible training and employment opportunities. Networking activities are also organized to promote communication between members, the community and government agencies. If you need to network, wish to be informed about the job market or the resources available to you, this program is a good option for you.
–Peer Support: coffee meetings and support groups are organized to foster communication such as sharing ideas and experience between people living with disabilities whether they are the same or different. You are free to join if you wish to share your experiences of living as an independent person living with a disability or if you wish to find support and/or information.
–Development of skills for independent living: is a set of activities intended to develop independent living skills pertaining to daily life, housing, education, transportation and employment.
–Research and Community Development: these are research based workshops which provide appropriate training for skill development.
