Paratransit – Estrie
In the Estrie region, the Société de Transport de Sherbrooke (STS) is responsible for public paratransit service. This service is only offered in the city of Sherbrooke. To apply, one must complete the application form on the STS website or call (819) 564-2687. If you place a request for regular transport (fixed destinations and times – for example: transport to and from university), a single call to the dispatcher is needed. A call needs to be placed at least 14 days before the first scheduled pick-up at (819) 566-1848. Any long-term cancellation (more than 10 days) related to such type of fixed itinerary must be communicated to the dispatcher at least 10 days in advance by calling the same number as above. Changes to the transportation schedule must be indicated to the dispatcher between 24 hours and one week ahead of time. Requests for occasional transportation are accepted for all 7 days of the week and must also be placed 24 hours to 7 days in advance.
The office hours for the dispatching service are from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Outside of office hours, the minibus driver can be reached for emergency requests only at (819) 823-6147. Service hours are from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 12 a.m.
The fare for this type of transport is the same as the regular fare. There are different categories of transportation tickets: the token is used for a single fare and is available at all STS points of sales (for a list of STS points of sales, visit STS website). The expiration/renewal date for the regular rate card currently in circulation has been extended until further notice. Therefore, transportation users who hold this type of photo ID card do not have to renew it by the date indicated. If you wish to obtain such a photo ID card, please visit:
Pharmaprix Carrefour de l’Estrie
Centre d’opération STS,
895 Cabana
Sherbrooke (QC) J1K 2M3
Finally, there is the reduced fare pass for users aged 21 or under: this pass is personalized, non-transferable and must be used with the photo identification card and two other pieces of identification. It is renewable at the end of August each year for people aged 21 or under.
The STS allows users the right to be accompanied during transportation if such a need is identified by the eligibility committee during the application assessment process. Authorized accompaniment is broken down into 3 different categories: optional, compulsory and related to parental responsibilities. Only attendants under the optional and parental responsibilities categories are required to pay transportation fees.
It is important to know that students enrolled at l’Université de Sherbrooke can benefit from the U of S student “Supercarte” which enables students to use public transportation for free. Public transportation fare is included in the university tuition fees.
