About this Guide
Introduction
This guide was written by students with disabilities for students with disabilities. It was created by the Quebec Association of Post-secondary Students with Disabilities (AQEIPS) and it is meant to be a useful resource for students living with a wide range of disabilities who may be thinking about pursuing post-secondary level education.
An earlier edition of this guide was published in 2004 by a group of dedicated students and disability-rights advocates at AQEIPS. Today, we continue to receive requests for this initial publication from prospective and current students with disabilities, as well as parents, teachers, social workers and school counselors. The relevance and need for a resource like Post-Secondary studies are also for you! is undeniable.
To address this ongoing demand we decided to update the 2004 guide. We wanted to ensure that you have the latest information regarding the resources and services available to students with disabilities who wish to pursue post-secondary education. We also wanted to introduce the topic of rights into this discussion because rights frame the very context in which these resources and services are made available to students with disabilities.
Our hope is that this guide will serve as a tool for self-advocacy and empowerment. Education is a right! If you wish to pursue post-secondary studies, we want you to have access to all of the information you will need in order to succeed to your fullest potential.
